Levi Walls
Levi (LAY-vee) Walls is a Stockton native who has been playing piano for twenty-seven years and teaching it for the last sixteen years. He has received bachelor's degrees in piano performance and music education from Humboldt State University (2015), a master's degree in music theory from University of North Texas (2018), and is currently completing his PhD in music theory (anticipated 2027). He is passionate about teaching music in engaging, kind, and thoughtful ways, whether his students are preparing for a career in music or simply looking to have fun learning for the first time!
Although Levi's musical background is in classical music and jazz, his love and appreciation of music knows no bounds. Aside from teaching his students how to read and express themselves through music, one of Levi's primary goals is to give students the tools needed to eventually pursue the musical path most important to them, whether that path ultimately leads to ragtime, música Mexicana, rock, or Mozart. At the same time, Levi's patient and thoughtful approach to music helps students develop confidence, emotional fluency, and the value of calm problem-solving.
Aside from teaching piano (and accordion), Levi has also taught music theory at several universities in California and Texas. He has presented his scholarly work at regional and national meetings of various scholarly music societies and currently has a publication under contract with Cambridge University Press. In his free time, Levi enjoys spending time with his daughter, reading, building things, anime, and training his body to survive entirely on coffee.
