JUDY GASCOYNE

My name is Judy Gascoyne, aka Groovy Judy. I'm a teacher, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and performer. I've been playing music, primarily guitar, for 45 years. I always had ambitions of becoming a full-time musician but was stuck in a miserable corporate job. That all came to a head in 2004, when I was laid off from my job. Finding myself at a crossroads, I decided to follow my dreams instead of sending out resumes. Since then, I've been a full-time private music teacher helping others learn, as well as performing with my band, Groovy Judy (groovyjudy.com). I teach guitar, ukulele, beginning electric bass, vocals, beginning piano and songwriting, in addition to coaching bands and giving performance tips. I work with a lot of kids, as well as adults, and beginners. I enjoy getting brand new students up and running with proper techniques and good habits. My teaching style/philosophy is to get my students playing as soon as possible in an easy and fun way. I focus on basics such as tuning, rhythm, proper pick technique, strumming, reading guitar tab and/or sheet music and playing songs, and I tailor my lessons to the student so it's fun for both of us. I love teaching, music, and sharing my gifts with others. Away from music, I enjoy spending time with my husband and family, traveling, and playing golf. I also like watching movies, dining out, going to concerts, comedy shows, going for walks, swimming, working out and being outdoors.
