DANIELLE SMITH

Piano, Voice

Danielle began her musical studies in piano and saxophone at an early age to then move on to study classical voice at Delta College. There she studied vocal performance under the tutelage of Dr. Bruce Southard and Kate Bautch. Under their direction, Danielle learned the mechanics of the voice, as a unique instrument of its own, and worked closely with professors in private lessons, various ensembles, and workshops to embrace a well-rounded experience. Upon completion of the music program at Delta, she graduated with her degree in Vocal Performance.  Prior to her years at Delta College, Danielle studied piano for nine years during which she completed numerous levels of Certificate of Merit, helping shape her musical background with technique, ear training, and theory. Danielle has performed in many venues, most notably Carnegie Hall in New York. Her first performance there in 2016 was under the direction of acclaimed composer and arranger, Greg Gilpin. In 2019, she participated again at Carnegie in a chamber choir and orchestral performance of John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children”. She currently performs around Lodi and surrounding areas as a bassist and vocalist in a jazz-pop group, Music with Strings Attached.

Danielle is a firm believer in teaching how the brain and body interact when singing. With her voice students she uses a classical approach using anatomy and technique, while integrating neuroscience and nervous system training to help students understand the role that their brain and anatomy have in their singing.

For Danielle, teaching music is a way to share something that words alone cannot describe. Danielle hopes that through teaching, she can instill a love for music in students and inspire them to use music as a place of personal expression and growth.
